Brooks & Associates Wins IABC Bronze Quill Award of Excellence for Media Relations

HOWE, Texas, October 7, 2005 — Brooks & Associates Public Relations, Inc., a full-service, Dallas-area public relations firm, along with Carol Barreyre of Carol Barreyre Communications, Inc. today was awarded  a Bronze Quill Award of Excellence from the Dallas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

In February 2005, Brooks & Associates president Virginia Brooks and Carol Barreyre, working on behalf of the agency, planned and promoted a keynote appearance by Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, at CERA Week in Houston. The media campaign leveraged the natural curiosity of most journalists about why Ballmer, a technology maven, was keynoting at CERA Week, arguably the most prestigious gathering of energy industry leaders in the world.

According to Brooks, “Working however briefly with a corporate leader of the stature of Steve Ballmer is always a privilege — and a challenge. In this case, his CERA Week appearance afforded us the opportunity to enlighten a number of key business reporters about Microsoft’s commitment and capabilities in the oil and gas industry.”

IABC judges commented on the award-winning media relations campaign saying, “This plan exhibited professional, competent work with impressive results.”
